1900 Drawings

Imagine 1,900 drawings in a single show, and then imagine that the drawings are not hung on the wall in row after row but, instead, from the ceiling.

It creates what curator and participant Brent Dedas calls "a cloud of ideas." The notion behind "The Process of Exploration: 1900 Drawings" is that the 19 artists have investigated their own subconscious and opened a "doorway into the creative process," according to Dedas, who teaches drawing at the University of Louisville. The exhibition at the Student Art League's off-campus Rouge Noir Gallery, 333 E. Market St.

Larry Keene Stained-Glass Artist

Larry lives in Northern Kentucky and was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease (PD) about fifteen years ago. He became a full-time retiree from his employment as a claims manager several years ago due to complications with his PD.

His form of art, stained-glass windows and fireplace covers, among many other items, was a craft he started doing as a hobby more than 25 years ago. Participating in local craft shows gave Larry his start in selling his art. He has exhibited at the Shaker Village and many other shows in the Northern Kentucky area since. Most of his work is produced as commission pieces, or he gives them as gifts to family and friends, as well as donations to auctions for non-profits.

Larrys stained-glass fireplace cover that he donated to the Parkinson Support Center of Kentuckiana for a silent auction, resulted in a bidding war during the auction. The winner was extremely pleased.

Larry has two children, Kate, age 28, a teacher in Oldham County Middle School, and Ben, age 25, a mechanical engineer in the Cincinnati area.

His work was exhibited and sold on April 19th in the Barret Zone art corridor at the Shekinah Studio, during the Parkinson Art Hop, benefitting the Parkinson Support Center of Kentuckiana and supporting artists with PD.

Tom will be part Parkinson's Art Hop in the Barret Zone on Thursday, April 19^th from 6:00-9:00 p.m. to raise funds for the Parkinson Support Center of Kentuckiana.
Working with scissors, tweezers, and rubber cement, Tom expresses his unique artistic vision in paper paintings, a form of collage created by cutting and positioning hundreds of pieces of paper into precise patterns from color pages of magazines. His lifelike collages are vibrant, colorful works of art, each one depicting beautifully appointed nudes, waterscapes or mountain scenes, or whatever fires his imagination. With a flair for the Erotica, Tom has a particularly unique collection of nudes. His attention to details brings his art to life. Each one is a prized piece taking many days to create.

Down to the Wire: The WTO Doha Round, (is) a nuanced, informed piece of journalism that focuses on the micro issues of trade negotiations among the 149 member nations of the WTO. Specifically, the film centers on the sixth ministerial conference, which took place in Hong Kong from Dec. 13-18.
Craig McClurkin, a friend of the Greenhouse, has produced this documentary that we are proud to host.

Third Thursday Gallery Hops

The Greenhouse Arts Project would like to announce our latest extension into the wider arts community in Louisville, our collaboration with the Barret Zone to bring to the city "Third Thursdays" every month in the Barret Avenue gallery district, which is centered at the corner of Barret and Winter Avenues. The first ever Third Thursday event will be held 18 January, 2007, beginning at 6PM and culminating at the Monkey Wrench, 1025 Barret Avenue, at 10PM with a live broadcast of "Woodyâs Roadhouse" on WFPK Radio Louisville 91.9FM, called the "Mighty Barret Avenue Shake".

This event will serve as the opening for our featured monthly exhibit at the Monkey Wrench, showcasing the paintings of Louisville/Chicago based artist David Louis Carter. Visitors can also expect murals, video, live music, improvisational theater, and more.

The Greenhouse Arts Project is a collective gallery and studio space that focuses on showcasing emerging local artists in Louisville. On Sat. November, 11 we were a part of the Peak Summit Festival
We whipped up a few bumpers to advertise our involvement with the Frankfort Ave. Trolley Hop and The Monkey Wrench.
We had a video display of the previous episodes
of the Greenhouse Arts Podcast in each venue. It was a pretty rockin'. If you didn't know, Louisville has a strong and varied musical scene.

On October 27, we are proud to feature the first showing of the work of Jina Hardy, an incredibly talented local artist. 14 Artists 1400 Drawings

In our first episode of The Greenhouse Arts Podcast we have a video featuring the music of Stonewheel. The subjects are the 14 artists who showed here in May. The theme was "Drawing as Thinking". We are a Louisville, KY art collaboration.
The Greenhouse Arts Project is a creative experiment comprising a laboratory, living space, studio, and gallery. We plan to explore the boundaries of creativity and spirituality through 24 monthly shows documenting the processes involved in creating, presenting, and enjoying art. After our two years are up, we will have created, at least, a culmination of our work and a new beginning from which to move forward.
